Investment from Finance South West has enabled private water supplier SCL Water Ltd to buy new premises after increasing concern for the environment led to a surge in demand for alternative water supplies.
SCL Water Ltd has recently moved to a purpose-built unit in Torrington, North Devon, thanks to significant investment from the regional finance company Finance South West’s Business Loan Fund, which has now invested in 58 small and medium sized businesses, levering more than £4.5 million into the South West economy*.
Led by Managing Director Stephen Kingdon-Saxby, SCL Water specialises in the location, abstraction and filtration of private water supplies for customers who wish to take advantage of the relaxed water regulations. Both commercial and domestic users can extract up to 4400 gallons (20,000 litres) of water per day without the need for a licence. SCL Water provides a comprehensive service, from initial consultation through to full installation, including a range of services such as borehole and well construction, pumps and filtration, rainwater harvesting, ‘grey water’ systems and sewage treatment.
Customers can also conserve water, by recycling their grey water through the Aquastore unit, which filters bathroom waste water to reuse in the garden or for outside cleaning. SCL Water’s sewage treatment options range from a simple cesspit through to septic tanks and sewage treatment plants.
Stephen Kingdon Saxby said: “Many users are switching to their own water supply due to the constant increase in water bills. Rainwater harvesting has proven to be particularly popular with both commercial and domestic users. Our most recent rainwater harvesting installations have been for two nursing homes in Devon who are now able to use the water for their washing machines and toilets, as well as for irrigation, due to the unique systems we supply.”
Richard Pym, from the Finance South West Business Loan Fund, said: “SCL Water is a dynamic and forward-thinking business and we are delighted to have invested in such an environmentally conscious venture.”
